Berry and Zager Break the Bank
Master Z’s in Waukesha WI brought out 15 players on Valentine’s Day for the BCW Open 9 ball tournament. All players hoped to take a win straight to the bank. The two players that did are not strangers from winning the doe. You may remember our champ Mark Berry and runner up John Zager from winning a quarter of a million dollars in the Canadian Club Showdown. On the winner side four players remained. John Zager won over Jeff Carter 8 games to 4 while Mark Berry showcases his skill beating Jon Giles 8 games to 2. This put Zager and Berry in a hot seat match where Berry continues strong play winning by the score of 8-3. Over on the West side of the chart Jonathan Demet won over Todd Rathkamp 6-1, up and coming junior player Tyler Styer squeaked by Scott Kugel 6-4, Robert Treffeisen beat Dave Leverenz 6-2, and Gary Johnson won a big match over previous State Champion Craig Powers 6-1. That left six players on the one loss side. Jonathan Demet won over Tyler Styer 6-2 While Gary Johnson knocked Robert Treffeisen out by the score of 6-1. Jeff Carter than defeated Jonathan Demet 6-2 and Jon Giles took out Gary Johnson 6-3. In the quarterfinals Jeff Carter won over Jon Giles 6 games to putting him against John Zager in the semifinals. Zager played well and won over Carter 6-3. John proceeded to the finals where he lost to Mark Berry 8-3.

Hagen Holds Strong Four hundred dollars added money brought out twenty six amateurs to Romine’s High Pockets in Milwaukee WI. A lot of excitement was in the air about the new set up with an online stream embedded on the BCW website. Four players submerged on the east side ready to play. Bill Hagen bested Ryan Layman 7-2 and Jon Giles squeaked by George Zavala 7-6. This put Hagen against Giles for the Hot Seat. Bill Hagen sent Jon Giles over to the west side winning their match 7-3. Eight players were left in the one loss side all looking to dominate. Chris Mason beat Rocko Theilman double hill, Kenny Williams sent Mike Reagan home 7-3, Dan Hau bested Paul Scott 6-3, and Tim Nickl worked every game out of Chris Gitzlaff winning 6-1. In the final six on the west side Kenny Willams got a win over Chris Mason 7-3 and Dan Hau bested Tim Nickl 6-2. This left four in the one loss side. George Zavala won over Kenny Williams 5-3 and Dan Hau Sent Ryan Layman Packing 6-4. The quarterfinals made for a great match leaving George Zavala in fourth place and advancing Dan Hau with a match score of 6-5. This put Dan Hau against Jon Giles in the semifinals where Giles nipped Dan Hau double hill. The finals started out slow but after two games Bill Hagen caught a gear and played methodically winning 7-2 making him undefeated all the way to first place.
